FIRST: SET OFF A FIRE ALARM.
Break-glass alarm callpoints are labelled and signposted, they are situated on most corridors and at points of exit onto stairways.
In most University buildings this will register on the central alarm panel and thus alert the University Security (and Emergency) Service. They will send for the Fire Brigade.
However in the following buildings the alarm is internal only and it is essential to telephone the Security and Emergency Service on internal 4499.
6 Ashgrove; and Oxenhope Moor Transmitting Station RING 4499
THEN: fight the fire, using the apparatus provided, but only if it is safe to do so, otherwise leave the building by the nearest available exit and move well away from the building.
In the case of other emergencies such as accidents, sudden illness, breakdown of lifts, gale or flood damage, major failure of apparatus, explosion etc, send for help to the University Security (and Emergency) Service by ringing the number printed on the telephone handset: 4499 and tell them what is the matter. They will send someone to your assistance at once and will summon any other help that is needed whether from inside or from outside the University.
